How I Lost 35 Pounds in Midlife
Hey Bestie! I hope you are all having a great week! One thing that I will be sharing a lot about here on Midlife Karen is how I lost 35 pounds in midlife and the realistic lifestyle changes that helped get me there.
Let’s rewind to February 2024. I realized something had to change. I realized that I was the only one that could do it. No more excuses, no more blaming my perimenopausal metabolism.
I felt uncomfortable in my own skin and it was starting to take a toll. I barely walked 4,000 steps a day, not exercising at all and eating way too much processed junk. The scale kept creeping up, my clothes were so tight and I was running out of things to wear.
I was not happy with myself or my appearance and feeling very defeated. Not to mention, I knew I was turning 50 soon and SOMETHING had to change. So, I made a promise to myself to take control of my health and fight for how I wanted to feel everyday.
It wasn’t easy (believe me, there were plenty of days I wanted to give up!) but with consistency, small daily habits, and a lot of grace, I finally lost 35 pounds. I honestly feel better at 50 than I did at 30!

Walk 10K Steps a Day
Regular physical activity boosts your mood, increases energy and balances hormones, especially in Midlife. I started small, adding short walks throughout the day. I tracked my progress every month and slowly increased my step count every 30 days until I worked my way to ten thousand steps a day. My family laughs when I do laps around our kitchen island at night to hit my daily step goal but hey… it works! Trust me, those extra steps add up over time.
Low Carb Diet
I ate a Low Carb (KETO) diet, I found cutting out sugar and heavy carbs was a game changer. I focused on whole foods and made sure to include protein with every meal. Protein kept me fuller longer, supports my muscle mass and stabilizes energy levels.
50 Sit ups a Day
After eight months of doing 50 daily sit ups, my belly has disappeared! Even when I’m exhausted from Mom duty, I never skip this. It takes just three minutes before bed, but over time, those minutes have made a huge impact.
STRENGTH TRAINING
Strength training became my secret weapon. Builds muscle helps burn calories at rest, and as we age, maintaining muscle is key to metabolism and longevity.
Supplements that Support Midlife Health
Halfway through my weight loss journey, I discovered how helpful natural supplements can be for hormone balance, cortisol support and appetite management. Adding ingredients like Inulin and Tea Leaf extracts helped me to lose those last 5-10 pounds. I was honestly surprised by how much of a difference they made.
PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION
I am not a health professional, just a busy midlife mom who was tired of feeling sluggish and finally made small changes that stuck.
When I look at my before and after photos (late 2023 vs December 2024), I still can’t believe its me and that I lost 35 pounds in midlife. My face is less puffy, my energy is through the roof, and I’m a happier more confident version of myself. Now, I can keep up with my teens, feel proud in my clothes, and have energy left to actually enjoy life again.
